📢 A NOTE FROM VIN, OGCG PRESIDENT
Happy winter gardening everyone. As you all know the change of seasons is no impediment to having plenty of jobs and plenty of opportunities in both your home gardens and at our fabulous Community Garden. Our community plots have been refreshed thanks to Robyn and a number of loyal helpers; we’ve had a couple of recent very successful Farmers Market Stalls and we’ve held monthly working bees. I continue to be blown away by the efforts of our members, and particularly our Committee Members. Thanks to everyone who contributes.
Kate Thomas recently moved interstate and therefore resigned from the Committee and her various other roles, including the administration of our website. Fortunately people have stepped in to help - Diana Fisk has added the website to her newsletter role and Pat Scott has been appointed to the Committee. Our thanks to both of them for their willingness to step in.
The Committee continues to meet monthly. At our 10 June meeting we considered a number of things of importance including required repairs to the gazebo; the removal of a major Tea Tree limb which extends over the shed; arrangements for the upcoming AGM and 2025/26 fees. We also considered an upcoming requirement to apply for registration by the Department of Agriculture if we are to continue to sell leafy vegetables at the Farmers Market.
Gazebo: We have confirmed there are no structural or safety concerns and have sought quotes to undertake repairs. The Committee, working with Council, will arrange to have these works completed but firstly we need to source a grant fund solution.
Tee Tree: Council’s arborists have now removed the limb.
Annual General Meeting: This will be held at 11.00am on Sunday 11 October. Event details and a proposal for 2026/27 fees will be provided closer to the date. In the meanwhile please consider if you would like to join the Committee or to take on an allocated role including office bearer positions.
Department of Agriculture Registration: We are following up complex issues and implications of going down this path.
Feel free to contact the Committee via email or call me on 0438 010563 if you wish to discuss your ideas or concerns. AND don’t forget to have a look at the web site for Viv’s tips on winter gardening in Ocean Grove.
